As we edge closer to the idea of the Singularity – a tipping point where machine intelligence accelerates beyond human control, the most pressing risks won’t come from code alone. They’ll come from us.
The Human Factor in AI Risk
Today’s AI risks are already clear:
- Employees pasting sensitive data into generative tools.
- Organisations over-relying on unverified AI outputs.
- Bias, hallucinations, and opaque decision-making hidden in the algorithms we adopt.
But these risks are symptoms of something deeper: human behaviour in the face of exponential technology.

That evolution looks like:
- Nudges and Choice Architecture: Embedding micro-decision prompts directly into AI tools, making the safe path the easy one.
- Cultural Engineering: Shaping norms of curiosity and caution, where employees feel safe to ask, “Should I use AI for this?”
- Dynamic Policies: Living frameworks that adapt as fast as AI capabilities shift, reinforced through behaviour, not just compliance.
- Psychological Safety: Creating organisations where raising AI risks is rewarded, not punished.
These aren’t side projects. They are survival strategies.
The Coming Convergence
AI doesn’t just change what we do; it changes how we think, interact, and decide. The boundary between human cognition and machine cognition is blurring.
In this convergence, cybersecurity isn’t just about firewalls and algorithms. It’s about trust, influence, and human behaviour at scale.
If we fail to prepare, AI will magnify our weakest instincts: shortcuts, overconfidence, blind trust in technology.
If we succeed, AI can amplify our strengths: collaboration, judgement, ethical reasoning, and creativity.
